Eggie Rivera of Kennett Square
Eggie Rivera, 40, passed away tragically on Monday, January 23, 2017 from injuries sustained in a car accident in Caln Township, PA. Eggie was a lifelong resident of Kennett Square. He graduated from Kennett High School (1996) where he was an accomplished singer in the school’s a cappella group. At the time of his death, Eggie was enrolled in the nursing program at Delaware County Community College, after many years as a home health aide and tireless patient advocate. He had no forbearance for policies or procedures that impeded his ability to put the patient first and he was much beloved by the individuals he cared for, loved, and considered his family. In addition to providing private home care, Eggie worked at Brandywine Hospital and Life Care as a unit secretary and patient care technician. He will be remembered for his exuberance, raw sense of humor, and his loving and giving nature. He is survived by his parents, Cresencia Colon and Guillermo Rivera of Kennett Square, PA; brothers Guillermo Rivera, Newark, DE, Adalberto Rivera, Oxford, PA; and, sisters Betsaida Colon and Lilia Rivera of Kennett Square, PA. Although Eggie had no children of his own, he was a loving uncle and adored his nieces Lily Martinez, Cheidy Colon, Keila Colon, Ashley Rivera and nephews Carlos Caraballo, Eric Rivera, Marcos Rivera, Brandon Schembs-Rivera and Christian Schembs-Rivera. Eggie also cherished his great nieces and nephews, Kiana and Alisia Martinez, Luis Arroyo and Julian Hernandez. A celebration of Eggie’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A visitation will be held prior at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will be private. The Rivera family will be establishing the Eggie Rivera Memorial Fund to help support Kennett High School music students with financial needs. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to KHS Friends of Music, 100 E. South St., Kennett Square, PA 19348. Please indicate the Eggie Rivera Memorial Fund in the memo.
